2016 Tour Recap

2016 was a very big for the music touring industry! According to Pollstar.com, American touring industry grossed over $3.34 billion, which was 7% more than last year at $3.12 billion. Those figures are based off the Top 100 music tours, but today we want to talk about the Top 5 from last year.

5. Adele – $95.1 Million

After the incredible reception of Adele’s album 21, she decided (after five years) that it was time to release her next album called 25. Adele embarked on an American arena tour to support the album being released. Each show brilliantly showcased her powerhouse vocals while also keeping the show an intimate feeling. All 54 American tour dates sold out within seconds. While she obviously could do more dates, she and her team agreed that it would be better for her to play it safe due to the vocal issues she had back in 2011.

4. Garth Brooks – $97 Million

Although this tour began in September of 2014, this tour still out grossed several other tours in 2016 alone. Garth Brooks is one of the most recognizable names in Country music. Even if you aren’t a fan of country music, you still know who Garth Brooks is. Garth and his wife Trisha hit the road for this tour. Since the beginning of the tour, Garth and Trisha have played 337 shows in North America. Because of the demand, the tour has had to play multiple dates in the same city. Garth would often perform two shows per night in some cities. This tour has broken the record for the most all-time concerts in a tour.

3. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band – $122.4 Million

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band hit the road for The River Tour in 2016. This worldwide tour had a total of 89 shows between January to September. Springsteen and the E Street Band holds the biggest Boxscore for 2016, because of their May 27th and 29th shows. Both shows collectively brought in around $20 million in box-office receipts for two shows. Around 80,000 attendees attend the show, with the grand total of 160,000 attendees for two shows. Bruce Springsteen is obviously an icon that will never be forgotten!

2. Guns N’ Roses – $130.8 Million

The iconic rock band Guns N’ Roses headed out on the road this past year as well. Surprisingly, a few former band mates joined up with the band as well. It was the first time since 1990 that former drummer Steven Adler had been on stage with Guns N’ Roses, but he jumped in and played like old times. This tour was the highest earning per-show concert in 2016.

1. Beyonce – $169.4 Million

This past year went down in history for the career of Beyonce. She went out on her first solo stadium tour and this tour was the most impressive to date. This tour brought in a whopping $169 million in box office receipts over 40 dates. The tour is built around her new LP, Lemonade. A centerpiece of the show is that she has a 50-foot-tall tower of video screens that shoots flames.

If you didn’t catch these tours this past year, you should try to attend these artists next tour date, because you won’t be disappointed!
